Curriculum

The course to become a Licensed Massage Therapist includes the following classes and are offered at these times:

* 9:00 am to 1:30 pm cst
* 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm cst

Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology - 200 hours
A basic introduction to human anatomy and physiology taught on the undergraduate level.

Swedish Massage - 200 hours
The skill of manipulating the soft tissue to stimulate circulation and relieve stress.

Theory and History - 21 hours
The study and practice of massage throughout history.

Therapeutic Chair Massage - 10 hours
Therapeutic massage and stretching techniques on a client who is fully clothed and in a seated position.

Professional Development (Business) - 50 hours
Learning the required skills of business practices in order to be a successful Massage Therapist. Learning S.O.A.P Notes to communicate with other professionals in a common written language.

Hygiene and Prevention of Communicable Diseases (HIV/AIDS) - 12 hours
Skills and guidelines in infection control and the importance of good health as it relates to clients as well as the Therapist. This time will also include ethics, professional boundary training, first aid and CPR.

Hydrotherapy - 25 hours
The proper use of water as a rehabilitation mechanism in conjunction with massage.

Polarity - 2 hours
An exercise in balancing the body both physically and energetically.

Medical/Sports Massage - 24 hours
Emphasis on recognition of muscle dysfunction and prevention of injuries.

Acupressure - 25 hours
Learning to identify and treat pain at specific points.

Reflexology - 25 hours
Pressure points on the feet and hands and how the stimulation of these areas affects the body.

Lymph Drainage - 10 hours
How the stimulation of the lymph system affects the body's immune system.

Continuing Education Credits

CEU's are offered on an ongoing basis. Including the mandatory TN class on Law, Ethics, and Business and are given about every six months.
